Administrative history

New Mahi Grama Panchayat, located on the banks of the Mayyazhi River on the southern border of Kannur district, was officially formed on January 1, 1962, incorporating the historical influences of British Malabar and French Mahi. This small coastal village, which started its administration with simple facilities under the leadership of the first president K.P. Kunhiraman Master, later became a strong democratic political ground ruled by the Left and Janata movements in turn. The governing bodies here were able to successfully implement decentralized planning through the People's Planning Movement of 1996 and through public welfare schemes like Kudumbashree, Harithakarma Sena, and Life Mission. This area, which has a high population density and the characteristics of Mayyazhi culture, is currently moving forward with an exemplary administrative history in 13 wards, focusing on women empowerment, coastal development, excellent health and education models, and e-governance systems.
